Hitachi makes the deskstar and travelstar for use in residential type applications and small business. These drives sometimes crash. Fortunately, TechRx, Inc. in Green Bay can help you recover your crashed hard drive and recover data that you lost.

Symptoms can include clicking, knocking, or weird beeping. If you hear these types of problems – stop using your crashed drive. Do not try to recover data yourself. Do not use software to recover the data. Contact TechRx Inc. we offer free estimates (drives must be shipped to us to estimate.)

Not using your drive increases the change you can save your sensitive data. The reason why you should not try recovery software is that you can over-write data on the drive. This would make it very difficult to recover. With our free estimates there is no reason to try doing data recovery on your own.

The other reason why you should not continue to use your crashed hard drive is internal damage. If the hard drive pre-amp is dead, it can cause damage to the printed circuit board (pcb) leading to expensive repairs.

I hope this information helps you and your Hitachi Deskstar or Travelstar not have further problems. TechRx Inc has the special hardware required to perform complicated work on Hitachi hard drives. TechRx Inc has a class-100 clean room. Click Here to contact us about your free estimate.

TechRx data recovery in Green Bay will save your hard drive when it dies. However, before your drive visit TechRx in Green Bay, Wisconsin I wanted to share some tips that will save you frustration. Hard drives use a system referred to as S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology). The key point to remember with this technology is that it is “in hopes” of catching problems.

The reality with hard drive crashes is that S.M.A.R.T data may report “OK” but your drive can still fail. An important tool to use on your hard drive is a “benchmark tool.” A benchmark tool will reveal the true speed that the drive is transferring data at. Combine this value with how the drive should operate, and you can gauge issues easily.

Western Digital drives are prone to heat related issues. As the chips on the Western Digital drives wear, the hard drive begins to slow down. Using the benchmark score mentioned above can help you determine if you should replace your failing drive.

WD3200JS-22PDB0

Remember, watching S.M.A.R.T will help prevent issues. The data TechRx is most interested in is the “Pending Sectors” and “Reallocated Sectors.” I like to use a window screen as an illustration of sectors. The squares of the screen would be equitable to sectors and bad sectors would be similar to a tear. If you draw a circle on the screen that is 12” in diameter, anything outside the circle could be a “spare sector.” Hard drives have a certain amount of “spare sectors” that are used when the original sector goes bad. Run out of spare sectors and the drive will require data recovery. This remap process causes the drive to slow down due to the extra reading the drive must do.

If you suspect your drive is slowing down, be sure to backup your data promptly. Give TechRx a call at 920.884.1195 for assistance in getting your data saved. TechRx is an expert data recovery services company. We provide free data recovery estimates, and free data recovery shipping of hard drives to and from our facility for data recovery estimates.

Is consulting for school districts?

Is consulting for school districts? To quote Shakespeare, “…that is the question.” Our website received 10,427 hits last month for the keyword: “Is consulting for school districts.” I can speculate by the pure quantity of inquiry, this is a hot topic and deserves some attention on our blog. Here is my attempt to turn thought into writing! Here we go.

Examine the average individual during their life. They attend school for roughly thirteen years and typically make your way through three different school buildings. The buildings include grade school, middle school, and high school. Many of us attend post-secondary education too: college, or technical school. The idea here is to “expand our minds” with information that enables us to formulate new ideas and problem solve. The point here is that during our impressionistic years, we go through a lot of change. Teachers are different, buildings are different, and we get exposed to new concepts from many angles.

After a point, though many people cease “going to school” and enter the workforce. This is the first area of danger for many. Views become stagnate and price turns into the bottom line, typically. In turn, this creates a downward slope of inside the box thinking. People gravitate to familiar ideas, and when change comes, it creates a hardship. My opinion is that this means, “if it worked before… why change now.”

The idea of consulting is nothing new, people ask for opinions often. Consulting opens up a world of possibility by connecting people with experience. At a minimum, it provides an objective party to help sort through goals and needs. The idea is that people who go through a particular situation will typically learn things from it. Therefore, someone who goes through a budget short fall would be more qualified to help with ideas that a fresh college graduate. This is the thought that experience matters more than doctrine.

Based upon my opinion, I would say that consulting is for school districts. It pays to find people who have gone through similar situations. They can show you what they did and what they would have done differently. This enables you to see the situation through another set of eyes and not make the same mistakes. In the end, experience matters and that is where saving money begins. Have you enlisted the help of a consultant before? I would be curious to see how it worked; or, how it failed.

Several clients asked me to write an article regarding computer repair companies and data recovery. Their questions relate to the types of techniques used by the typical computer place vs. what you would get with a professional shop that specializes in data recovery. I hope some of the ideas here will help you make an informed decision.

When a piece of technology breaks; a digital camera, computer, memory chip, etc. the typical thought is, “bring it to the local computer repair guy.” Have him try it, and there is no harm in doing so. Unfortunately, this can be the biggest mistake a person can make for successful data retrieval.

The equipment itself dictates the way data is stored on a device, and where it is scattered is a function of the operating system. Think of a hard drive as a multi-layered salad. The data is stored as bits, and these bites make up bytes; and bytes are stored in sectors; and sectors are stored on tracks etc. Without going into engineering detail, there is a lot to know about the physical aspect of the data storage. Computer repair places are typically good at fixing the logical issues, but when it comes to physical issues on a hard drive, knowing what to do and more importantly what not to do matters most.

If a hard drive is “clicking” most of the time, an issue in the system area causes it. The system area is a place where instructions for the hard drive operations are stored. This area is impossible to modify without proper tools, and a full understanding of firmware. My concern with typical computer shops is that they do not know where to stop, and cause damage to the critial system area.

I received a hard drive from a client as a second opinion. A local computer shop gave up when the drive would not stop clicking. They attempted to read data off a drive with a bad pre-amplifier and did a huge amount of damage to the drive. The pre-amplifier takes the signal from the hard drive read head and magnifies it. What would have been a simple procedure was now a difficult and complex failure, resulting in expensive repairs.

Another misleading problem with hard drive crashes is repair software. The thought that a piece of software can fix a hard drive is a bad idea. People use recovery software and cause significant corruption of data. The notion that data recovery is a do it yourself project is wrong. For example, the Windows operating system writes data to hard drives even when you are not accessing the drive directly. This writing could trigger a drive to over-write things. Had the drive been properly accessed with the right tools, this would not happen.

When selecting someone to restore your memories and years of data, make sure they are qualified by asking questions. Write blocking is necessary when working on damaged drives. If the person on the end of the line has no clue about it, move onto the next professional. If a drive needs opening, make sure the recovery company has a clean room facility to do the work.

In conclusion, many reputable data recovery companies will not charge for an examination of the drive. TechRx, Inc. offers free shipping too. It pays to get an expert opinion first. If your data is important, do not look to your computer tech. Trust the certified and professional experts at TechRx, Inc. 920.884.1195.

Technology has the capability to make life simple and yet its ability to transform our life into chaos holds truth. Daily, we rely on technology without thinking twice. Our car has a computer to control the engine; our ovens cook properly because of computers; and our family photos are stored safely on the computer.

As computers now appear to dictate our lives, we blindly trust anyone to fix technology distress. The issue at hand is that technology is the single most influential device to coax our thought process. For example, if you break a tennis racquet and have an amateur fix it – the worse potential outcome is a bad game. With technology, the worse potential outcome is identity theft, lost memories, financial issues, stress, divorce , and total chaos just to name a few. Imagine what happens if you trust the neighbor kid to fix your pc. What if he stumbles upon years of family secrets or worse, improper, illegal, or pornographic materials and then decides to share it with his friends? Could you face criminal charges if he comes across illegal material? What if you thought you deleted improper photos; but he uncovers them? What will you spouse think when they read about it on Facebook®?

I ask you to ponder the life changing decisions that technology can cause you to make. Should you trust those decisions to a retail store clerk? Consider how you feel about a neighbor examining the intricacies of your life when you are not around. Think about how you would feel if that information made itself public. Perhaps, technology is a crutch that can let us down daily. Technology can cause irreversible injury.

The purpose of this article is to help internet users see that technology is a great tool, and a tool that will proliferate information, rapidly. When selecting a computer repair shop I believe the first question should always be, “what will you do to protect me?” In my opinion, I am doubtful a good experience would start with the words, “what does it cost to…” A person working from their home can be trustworthy, as can an individual in a large corporation. However, the more risk you assume for convenience, you further the risk of your life spreading across the internet forever. Large corporations might sell your contact information. Smaller shops may be less interested.

Many computer shops will charge low prices and promise to fix an issue and most of the time they will deliver on that promise too. The reality of technology is that experience counts. The larger part of reality is that experience, trust, and informed decision making will go further in helping you to make the right decision. The cost of doing something once is always less than the cost of rebuilding your life after something you think is small, turns into an issue so large you are caught in the title wave. Do you have questions and need answers that go outside the box? Call TechRx, Inc. – 920.884.1195

Spring is in the air and that can mean only one thing for a technology company – time to write our annual note about lightening damage. Each year, I see many computers that sustain damage they do not need to. I want to write about a few ideas that could help save your pc.
Lightening can come into your home/office through more places than the power outlet. Telephone, cable, and network lines are other examples of connections that often, have no protection.
Another over looked issue is the printer or scanner. You may remember to unplug the pc, but you might forget the scanner in the next room or around the corner! The rule here is that anywhere there is a wire; there is a possibility of damage.
Lastly, check your power strip. Some power strips are just “taps” for electricity. They may not offer any surge protection at all. Stay safe this summer!
